Well, at this point, it becomes really difficult to look at the NHL lockout and have any sort of optimism. It does not seem as there has been any significant movement towards a new CBA agreement, and time is running out. I would hate to see an entire season be wiped out because two sides cannot figure out how to split up $3.3 whatever billion it is, but it seems as though that is where the situation is headed. Out of all of this drama that has occurred between the players and owners, how many headlines have been made in regards of the fans? You know the answer; zero. It may sound as though the fans are not making the effort, but that is not the case. All over the media, fans are expressing their disgust. Especially on Twitter, accounts like @AngryNHLFans and others alike are sprouting, and expressing disgust, sometimes to the extreme. Via @NHLexpertpicks, a fan asked for a favor and it was granted by a player. It was a bit overboard, but is just an example of how disgusted fans are:

#Hawks Dave Bolland retweets a fan comment saying: ‘Can I get a RT for wanting Bettman dead?’ …He later deleted it and offered an apology. – Via Twitter @NHLexpertpicks

This, in my opinion, is going way too far no matter what role in society you play (especially representing a pro-sports organization). However, this is what happens when emotionally charged hockey fans become upset. Emotions get out of hand, and that leads to misexpression.

Of course, it is not as if the NHL, or even the players, give us fans much thought. I like to give the players the benefit of the doubt, but it does not seem as if neither side cares enough to make a drastic step towards a solution. And that is what is needed at this stage.

AHL Note..

On a more positive note, J.T. Brown was named the first star of Sunday (11/25) by NHL.com in its AHL Roundup. Brown’s stats: 3 goals, 1 assist.

The Syracuse Crunch have done little wrong this season in the AHL thus far, and a big part of that is consistent contribution from players on the team. This week, Brett Connolly has been deemed the Lightning Prospect Performer of the Week. Brett Connolly has been playing with some high level competition lately, playing with the Lightning last season, while also taking a trip to Canada to play in the Junior tournament. This season, Connolly has contributed to a team that is tied for first in the conference early in the season.

In three games last week, Connolly scored three goals and assisted on two, helping the Crunch win all three games last week. When Lightning fans look up and down the lineup of our AHL affiliate, they must feel highly comfortable with the future. The Lightning organization has done a great job of drafting and developing prospects, and it has shown heavily in the last year and a quarter for the AHL affiliate. Of course, the farm team was located in Norfolk last year, when the team won the AHL Championship. This year, the same group of players is playing in Syracuse. However, the move does not seem to be showing any negative effects against the team. The future is bright for the Lightning. That is, once a CBA is agreed upon…
