Tampa Bay Lightning Anthem Singer Sonya Bryson Retires From Air Force

Tampa Bay Lightning anthem singer Sonya Bryson has retired from the United States Air Force.

If you have ever been to Amalie Arena to watch a Tampa Bay Lightning home game, you have heard the voice of Sonya Bryson through the arena’s speakers and into your ears. As PA announcer Paul Porter asks everyone to stand up and remove their caps, the crown erupts at the sounds of Mr. Porter introducing Sonya as the person who with sing the national anthem of the United States of America.

She was always seen proudly wearing her United States Air Force uniform whenever she sang the anthem, and the way she sang the anthem didn’t change each time she did it. That was unless she stopped and pointed the mic to the crowd and let them take over for a brief moment as the anthem rolls on. A few days ago, Sonya announced her retirement from the United States Air Force on her Twitter page.

The Tampa Bay Lightning also sent out a tweet congradulating Sonya on her recent retirement from military service.

We here at Bolts By The Bay would like to wish Sonya a happy retirement. She has done a fabulous job as the team’s anthem singer, and will soon have a new opportunity singing the national anthem for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. We will continue to watch Sonya perform the national anthem with much grace and get us ready for Tampa Bay Lightning hockey.
