The Tampa Bay Lightning finish off a short two-game home stand in search of redemption as they take on captain Zdeno Chara and the Boston Bruins.
We find ourselves on the precipice of one of the spookiest nights of the year. It seems rather fitting that the Tampa Bay Lightning will be hosting one of their biggest Atlantic Division rivals, the Boston Bruins. Given the way things have worked out for the Lightning as of late, it is pretty safe to say they will be looking for a little redemption.
After all, scary is definitely a word that can be used to describe the rocky start the Tampa Bay Lightning got off to this season. While the Tampa Bay Lightning may have broken their scoreless streak in Thursday night’s encounter with the Colorado Avalanche, the Lightning ultimately fell 2-1 to their Western Conference opponents.
This is the first time the Tampa Bay Lightning has lost more than two games in a row since the beginning of the 2014-15 season.
While tonight’s showdown with the Boston Bruins is certainly not going to be a walk in the park for the Tampa Bay Lightning, they have an opportunity to get back on the right track and kick off their upcoming four-game road trip on a high note. This is especially important considering most of their upcoming opponents are Atlantic Division rivals.
The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins are scheduled to meet a total of four times throughout the course of the season. In the first meeting between these two Atlantic Division rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning was able to come up victorious 6-3 over the big, bad Bruins at their home in the TD Garden. This time, everything will go down right here in the Bolts Nation.
The Bolts have one huge advantage coming into their Halloween encounter with the Boston Bruins. The Bruins are heading into the Amalie Arena on the back half of a back-to-back weekend. This is the same situation the Lightning found themselves in when they faced off with the Chicago Blackhawks back on October 24th.
On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Lightning has quite a bit of adversity they’re going to have to overcome if they want to be victorious against the Bruins. The Tampa Bay Lightning seem to be riddled with injuries at the moment. Lightning center Cedric Paquette and left wing Jonathan Drouin are both day-to-day with Lower Body Injuries.
In addition to this, it was announced yesterday that center Tyler Johnson is now questionable for tonight’s encounter. This certainly doesn’t help the Tampa Bay Lightning with the offensive struggles they have been facing as of late. In fact, this will put even more pressure on people like captain Steven Stamkos, Alex Killorn, and even Victor Hedman to step things up in front of the net.
There is one player in particular the Lightning are going to have to keep a close eye on when the Bruins come calling. Bruins center David Krejci leads the way for the team in practically everything with 7 goals and 7 assists for a total of 14 points. These numbers also place Krejci in second place in the league in both goals and overall points.
Sure, everything seems like doom and gloom right now. It’s certainly understandable, but Halloween Night is the night when anything in the world can, and usually does, happen. Despite the struggles they have faced as of late, the Tampa Bay Lightning has an extremely talented offensive core and a solid defense capable of holding the line.
As the ghouls and goblins make their way around town in search of a good scare, and presumably a boat load of candy, we here in the Bolts Nation prepare to do battle with one of our biggest rivals. Who knows what kind of things will go bump in the night between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins. Thankfully, we’re only a few more hours from finding out.
