Tampa Bay Lightning: Other Fanbases Furious Over Steven Stamkos Signing

Fans in other hockey markets are absolutely furious over the Tampa Bay Lightning being able to re-sign captain Steven Stamkos for another eight years.

If you have found yourself on Facebook, Twitter or any of the other social media outlets at some point today, there is no doubt you have already heard the good news. The Tampa Bay Lightning have come to terms with Lightning captain Steven Stamkos on an eight-year contract extension that would see Stamkos remain in Tampa Bay until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

As you can imagine, there has been an overwhelming and rather resounding joy around the Bolts Nation today. As we wrote earlier, Tampa Bay Lightning fans have been absolutely on fire since the news about the young Lightning captain’s contract extension blazed its way through the internet.

While those of us here in the Bolts Nation celebrate the return of Steven Stamkos to the Tampa Bay Lightning roster, there are some fans in other fanbases who are absolutely furious over the way things played out today. Just as quickly as Tampa Bay Lightning fans took to places like Facebook and Twitter to proclaim their excitement, some other fans used those same outlets to spew some serious hate.

Despite the hate, there is nothing that can stop the influx of happiness going on throughout the Bolts Nation right now. At the same time, that doesn’t mean we can’t sit back, laugh, and be entertained at just how out of control some people’s anger has become at the situation.

So, without further delay, let’s take a look at the opinions of some who are not quite as pleased as those of us here in the Bolts Nation are over the eight-year contract extension Steven Stamkos signed earlier this afternoon.

This is what is known throughout the world as denial.

Is that the best hashtag game you have? Come on, we know you can do better than that.

We’ll remember that next season when we’re holding the Stanley Cup high above our heads.

The scary thing is, these are just the ones that were fit to print. There are more than a few expletive-laden posts out there that shoot plenty of venom the way of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Steve Yzerman, and even the man himself, Steven Stamkos.

Unfortunately, there are some hockey fans out there who just can’t fathom there is more going on inside a hockey player’s mind than how much money they make. Certainly, a big payday is on the top of any professional athlete’s mind; however, the thing that drives a player more than anything is the desire to win. This is something the Tampa Bay Lightning have to offer that none of his other suitors are ready to provide.

While there is certainly cause for celebration here in the Bolts Nation, there is still plenty of work to be done. Steve Yzerman has a large stack of contracts on his desk that still need to be signed. It will certainly be an interesting couple of weeks seeing how things play out. At least for now, Tampa Bay Lightning fans can rejoice as one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle has fallen into place.
