EA Sports has unveiled the Top 10  Goaltender Ratings in NHL 17 and Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop has come in at the number 10 position.

EA Sports has released the ratings of the Top 10 goalies in the NHL.  It was a given that Ben Bishop would be on this list.  After a stellar season like last season and being a finalist for the Vezina trophy, it would be insane for him not to be.

Turns out, the Lightning’s starting netminder barely made the list and ended up at the number 10 spot and tied with Tuukka Rask with an overall rating of 89.  I was more than a little shocked by this.  Don’t believe me?  Read the article for yourself at EA Sport’s website.

Honestly, this rating is somewhat of a slap in the face of Bishop and Lightning fans.  His new overall rating of 89 is a measly one point up from his rating at the beginning of last season.  I wouldn’t be quite as upset at this if he were higher up on the list than the tenth spot but that isn’t so.

Now, let’s look at a few of the goalies that came in higher than Bishop.  Tuukka Rask, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Corey Crawford all ranked higher than Big Ben coming in at the ninth, eighth, and seventh spots overall.

Fleury ended up not playing for a good bit of the season last year and missed almost all of the playoffs because of an injury, Tuukka Rask, and his Bruins missed the playoffs entirely, and in my opinion, Cory Crawford is one of the most overrated goalies in the league.

Don’t get me wrong, all of these players are extremely talented but after the record-setting season Ben Bishop had last year and being a finalist for the Vezina trophy, you’d think he would get a much higher rating than he did.

He was even named the starting goalie for Team USA for the World Cup Of Hockey but apparently that doesn’t mean too much.  It seems that everyone was excited about this, even Dave Gunnarsson of DaveArt.com who designed his Team USA mask.

Ratings are updated periodically throughout the season so we’ll  have to wait and see if there are any changes made to Bishop’s rating..
