Tampa Bay Lightning rookie forward Brayden Point opens the scoring for the second game in a row as the Bolts take on the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre.

The Tampa Bay Lightning has been on quite a tear as of late. After starting out the season with a bang, only to descend into a long period of doom and gloom, the Lightning has finally started to find their groove. Thankfully, the momentum has carried with them as they made their way into the MTS Centre in Winnipeg tonight.

Things got started a little earlier tonight than they did just 24 hours earlier in St. Paul, but Lightning fans will be hard pressed to find someone disappointed by this. Unlike the night before, the Tampa Bay Lightning got down to business, in a big way, in the first period.

Things really kicked into high gear just past the halfway point in the period. The Tampa Bay Lightning was fighting to keep possession of the puck in the offensive zone. Actually, it was more like Jonathan Drouin was fighting for position in the offensive zone.

In what almost seemed like slow motion, Drouin attempted to carry the puck around the back of the net. Surprisingly enough, Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck paid little attention to a well-placed Brayden Point, who was stationed right in front of the net.

All of Hellebuyck’s attention was focused on the racing Jonathan Drouin. Using his tremendous situational awareness, Drouin was able to hand the puck off to Brayden Point. Hellebuyck’s attention was still focused on Drouin when Point did what he does best, putting the puck in the back of the net.

Brayden Point’s follow up to Drouin’s pass equated to Point’s 7th goal of the season. The 20-year-old Calgary native has been on fire as of late. In the last five games, Point has brought home three goals and an assist for a total of four points.

In the 42 games he’s played this season, Point has scored seven goals and 13 assists for a total of 20 points. While this may not place him in the top five on the team in points, this young forward has proven himself to be one of the most valuable assets on the team.

The combination of Jonathan Drouin and Brayden Point has become one of the most dangerous combinations the Tampa Bay Lightning has to offer. It may be his first season in the NHL, but you would never know by watching him play. Needless to say, he’s someone fans want to see in Lightning blue for a long time.
