The Tampa Bay Lightning has re-assigned forwards Erik Condra and Gabriel Dumont to the Syracuse Crunch as the Bolts start their bye week.

The Tampa Bay Lightning has certainly had an exciting week. After spending most of the 2016-17 season shrouded in darkness, the Lightning has found the light at the end of the tunnel and have expeditiously found a way to start digging themselves out of the abnormally large hole they dug for themselves.

The Bolts finished off their four-game homestand with a 5-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. From there, they embarked on their current four-game road trip. As most Lightning fans know by now, the road trip kicked off with a back-to-back series against the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets respectively.

The Lightning would ultimately fall 2-0 to the Wild in the shootout in the first game of the road trip, but the Bolts would bounce back quite nicely on Saturday night against the Winnipeg Jets where they would deliver a solid 4-1 victory.

Now…the wait begins. What wait, you may ask? Well, the Lightning are knee deep in their bye week. The team won’t hit the ice again until Saturday night when they take on the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

While the break is highly beneficial to those players needing time to recover from nagging injuries, there are others who are currently sitting around collecting dust. This is definitely not good for a team who just recently found their groove.

Thankfully, there is a viable solution for some of those aforementioned players. The Tampa Bay Lightning has reassigned forwards Erik Condra and Gabriel Dumont to the Syracuse Crunch.

Erik Condra has made a few trips between the Tampa Bay area and Syracuse this season. Condra has played a total of 13 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old Michigan native has been unable to make his way to the scoreboard during his time in Tampa.

On the other hand, Gabriel Dumont has made quite an impact here in the Bolts Nation over the course of the few games he’s been in Tampa. In the 14 games Dumont has played as a member of the Lightning lineup, he has scored a goal and an assist for a total of two points. He’s also proven himself to be quite scrappy when the situation calls for it. Something the Lightning have lacked for quite some time.

More than likely, this is only a temporary re-assignment for Dumont. As most Lightning fans know, the Bolts don’t play again until Saturday night when they take on the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

In the meantime, the Syracuse Crunch played Sunday night against the Utica Comets and again tomorrow night against the Albany Devils. This will allow Condra and Dumont to get some playing time in while the Lightning is on their week-long break.

The Tampa Bay Lightning may have taken a significant portion of the season to finally find their groove, but the important thing is they have found a way to be consistent and they have found a way to win games. If the Lightning can continue to play the way they did before the break, there may be something to be made of this season yet.
