The Tampa Bay Lightning has re-assigned forward Cory Conacher to the Syracuse Crunch ahead of their encounter with the Colorado Avalanche.

The Tampa Bay Lightning played a fairly solid game last night against the Dallas Stars. The Bolts were able to bring home a point from taking the encounter to overtime. Unfortunately, the Stars would eventually win the day with a goal from Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn.

Unfortunately for one player on the team, they didn’t have the opportunity to take the ice with the team and contribute in any fashion. The aforementioned player is Lightning forward Cory Conacher.

Conacher was recalled from the Syracuse Crunch as an insurance policy in case Tyler Johnson and/or Jonathan Drouin were unable to take the ice with the team. Tyler Johnson had been forced to miss the last two games with an undisclosed injury and Jonathan Drouin was dealing with a nasty case of the flu.

Thankfully for the Lightning, both Johnson and Drouin were able to take the ice with the team. On the flip side, this means Conacher served as one of the Lightning’s healthy scratches against the Stars.

The Tampa Bay Lightning has a new challenge in front of them tonight as they finish off their back-to-back weekend series with an encounter against the Colorado Avalanche. Due to the fact both Johnson and Drouin were able to make their way back into the lineup, this means someone will be headed back to Syracuse.

Earlier today, the Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned Cory Conacher to the Syracuse Crunch. Honestly, this could very well be the best thing for Conacher at this particular point and time. Right now, the Syracuse Crunch are 7th place in the AHL’s Eastern Conference and, barring any major incident, are on track for the postseason.

Conacher has definitely made his mark on the Syracuse Crunch this season. In the 41 games he’s played so far this season with the Crunch, the 27-year-old Burlington, Ontario native has scored 10 goals and 32 assists for a total of 42 points. These numbers make Conacher first place in assists and second in overall points.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have a long journey in front of them if they have any hopes of making it to the postseason. At the same time, the future looks bright for the Syracuse Crunch. If the Lightning isn’t in need of a forward at the moment, we’d rather him get ice time with the Crunch than sit the bench with Tampa Bay.

Only time will tell what the remainder of the season has in store for both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Syracuse Crunch, but if both teams can stay on their current course and continue to bring home points they should both find themselves in a favorable position when the regular
