Tampa Bay Lightning fans are on the edge of their seats waiting to hear an update on the injury status of Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman.
The Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a near immeasurable loss last night as they took on the Calgary Flames, and no…we’re not talking about the game. About midway through the second period, things were all tied up between the Bolts and the Flames. The tide could turn either way at the drop of a hat.
Unfortunately, the tide turned into an absolute Category 5 Hurricane for Lightning fans in a matter of seconds. The play was making its way into the Lightning’s defensive zone when defenseman Victor Hedman sprang into action and made a check on Flames forward Garnet Hathaway. Then…it happened.
During the check, Hedman and Hathaway made knee-on-knee contact. Hedman’s knee moved in a way it shouldn’t have and immediately fans could tell there was something very wrong. Following the check, Hedman couldn’t seem to put any weight on his left leg.
He was able to make his way off the ice unassisted, but he would lean heavily on his stick and elevate his leg to avoid putting any sort of pressure on it. Once he made his way off the ice, he required assistance to make it down the tunnel and back to the Lightning locker room.

Later, it was announced Hedman had sustained a Lower-Body Injury (thanks, captain obvious) and would not be returning to the game. As one could easily imagine, Lightning fans remained on the edge of their seats awaiting information as to the nature and severity of Victor Hedman’s injury.
Unfortunately, the Bolts Nation would have to find a way to sleep not knowing any further information about Hedman. After the game, Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper told the media he didn’t have any update on Hedman’s condition and he would be evaluated tomorrow, which has now become today.
Needless to say, Lightning fans are not handling this situation very well. Losing a player like Victor Hedman is not something any team or their fans want to face. Hedman is a leader on the blueline and his veteran presence is something widely felt throughout the bench.
So, if you are one of the many Lightning fans having issues processing the events of last night’s game, know you are not alone. Let’s take a look at how some Tampa Bay Lightning fans are dealing with the injury to Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman.
The Lightning is definitely suffering on the blueline right now. On Sunday night, as the Lightning took on the Detroit Red Wings, the Lightning lost defenseman Dan Girardi after he took a nasty-looking shot to the head/neck. Girardi is currently feeling better but is not quite ready to make his return to the lineup.
Now, the Lightning is forced to throw Hedman into this very same calamity cluster. It almost feels like the Dementors have broken out of Azkaban once again and have made it their mission to suck every ounce of happiness out of the Bolts Nation.

Hopefully, when an update is available, it will say Hedman won’t be forced to miss any significant time; not only for the sake of the Lightning’s blueline but his presence at the 2018 NHL All-Star Game in a couple of weeks. Here’s hoping there is good news in the Lightning’s future and the Lightning’s Patronus lights the way.
