By Austin Hart
The Tampa Bay Lightning (33-16-2) kick off their four-game western road trip this afternoon in Texas against the Dallas Stars (30-13-10). Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET today with FanDuel’s odd currently set at +104 for the Lightning on the money line with an over/under set at six.
Tampa Bay finally notched their first win since the All-Star Break with a 5-0 rout of the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche. Andrei Vasilevskiy certainly backed up his All-Star selection with his first shutout of the season, looking absolutely phenomenal on Thursday night. Brandon Hagel also had a very impressive night, scoring two goals and adding an assist as well in the triumphant offensive showing. The Bolts certainly sent a message to Colorado in this game and look to be back on track as they begin their road trip.
The Stars come into this matchup on a mini-heater having won both games since the All-Star Break. An overtime win against the Anaheim Ducks paired with another victory two nights later against the Minnesota Wild has Dallas entrenched in the first spot in the Central division. The Stars have been playing very well this season behind 23-year old phenom Jason Robertson, who currently has 20 more points than the next highest player on the roster. This will certainly be a fiery matchup between two squads that met in the Stanley Cup Finals back in 2020.
The only other matchup this season resulted in a 5-4 overtime win for the Lightning at Amalie Arena. A back-and-forth game the whole way through was topped off by Alex Killorn’s game-winning goal in OT. Steven Stamkos also notched his 500th assist of his career, making him the second Lightning player to achieve this feat alongside Martin St. Louis. The Bolts are definitely looking to get another victory here today over the first-place Stars to complete the season sweep.
