Tampa Bay Lightning Rentals: Erik Haula

  • New Jersey Devils
  • 2022-23 – 14 goals, 27 assists
  • Age – 32
  • 2022-23 Cap Hit  – $2,375,000

Erik Haula had a very fair contract for the 2022-23 campaign. With 41 points for just $2,375,000, Haula’s Cost per Point (Cap hit divided by total points) was top 200 in the NHL this season.

He delivered 94 hits and blocked 54 shots. While he had 10 goals during 5 v 5 play, his individual expected goals during 5 v 5 play was a career-high 16.96.

Haula was also a key penalty-killer for the Devils this season.

He has never had a contract go over $2,750,000, and given his age, it is unlikely that a team would invest beyond $3,000,000 a year for a multi-year deal.

If Tampa can convince Haula to a one-year deal for $3,000,000, it might be a win-win for both parties.
