With the season fast approaching for the Tampa Bay Lightning, fantasy hockey leagues are also forming. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or looking to play for the first time, we here at Bolts by the Bay are going to run down some of the featured members of the Lightning and let you know where a good place to draft them would be.
If you are playing in a standard league that uses categories, you have to consider a player’s goals, assists, plus/minus, power-play points, shots on goal, and hits. Depending on your league, you either get a point for each category you win, or there a point values assigned to each category, and it is scored similar to standard fantasy football.
Today, we are going to look at Lightning stud Brayden Point.
Tampa Bay Lightning: On Point
- 2022-23 Stats:
- Goals: 51
- Assists: 44
- Plus/Minus: +2
- Power Play Points: 30
- Shots On Goal: 235
- Hits: 37
- Projected Round In A 12-Team League: Late Second Round
With 51 goals last season, Point was fifth in the league, and even at $9.5 million per season, his contract is a steal.
A player like Point is tricky to evaluate for fantasy purposes.
All of his other stats lag behind players that would be available around him in the second round. His shots on goal were 46th in the league last year, his power-play points were 25th, and his plus/minus and hits are well behind some other options.
But did we mention he can score goals? You can mix and match all the other categories to find options to fill. But goal scoring can be so hard to find that Point becomes a must-grab in the second round.
Our recommendation is that if you are in a points-based league, Point is worth the reach, even if you have an early pick in the second round.
If you are in a categories-based league and have a pick somewhere in the middle, see if you can pair Point up with Nikita Kucherov.
