On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced that captain Steven Stamkos will miss tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators with a lower-body injury. Stamkos is considered day-to-day, so it is possible he misses more time depending on the severity of the injury.

Stamkos played over 18 minutes in Saturday’s 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, scoring two goals and adding an assist. However, after scoring his second goal in the game, he appeared to have something bothering him he had checked out. He did finish out the game.

It’s early, but the injuries are already starting to pile up for the Bolts. We all know about The Big Cat missing the season’s first two months.

The Lightning also had free agent pick-up Tyler Motte leave their opener, and he is on injured reserve, forcing the call-up of Alex Barre-Boulet.

While Stamkos has had some notable injuries in his career, he has been able to stay healthy the last two seasons.

With Stamkos and Motte out, Barre-Boulet and Austin Watson took the ice for the Lightning against Ottawa.
