Beyond the walls of the Amalie Arena: Other professional teams in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay plays host to five professional teams that play at various points throughout the year. No matter when you visit Tampa, there are sports to see, whether it be hockey, baseball, or football. Visit Tampa Bay see the Lightning, Buccaneers, Rays, Tarpons, or Yankees.

Outside of just Amalie Arena and the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa, Florida is home to four other professional sports teams and right now. All three can be found just 15 minutes south of Amalie Arena.

George M. Steinbrenner is probably the most well-known stadium in Tampa. It plays home to the 27-time World Series Champion New York Yankees for spring training from February to April and then hosts the Tampa Tarpons, the Low-A minor league affiliate of the Yankees from April to September. And right now, you can catch the Tampa Bay Rays utilizing Steinbrenner Field while Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg undergoes reconstruction from the damage it sustained in Hurricane Milton.

Obviously spring training is one of the hottest commodities in Tampa Bay. People fly or drive in from all over the country to catch a glimpse of the Yankees as they take on other teams from throughout MLB’s grapefruit league, including the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, Houston Astros, Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Toronto Blue Jays. It’s a chance to see players, get autographs, and see the upcoming prospects who get big league camp invites take the field all together. If you’re a baseball fan, spring training is something to catch.

Outside of the spring trainings season, as mentioned, George M. Steinbrenner Field is also home to a minor league baseball team and is now also hosting the Tampa Bay Rays temporarily until their stadium construction is complete following their Hurricane Milton roof collapse. This gives Tampa Bay residents and visitors a chance to see Major League baseball without driving to St. Petersburg.

The Tampa Tarpons who usually utilize the main field at Steinbrenner Field are planying on the side field. The Tarpons bring fun for the whole family with six-game home stands from April through September. It’s a chance to see the starts of tomorrow take the field for a low price that is affordable and have fun with the whole family. Known for theme nights and on-field promotions similar to how the Lightning have promotions, you can have fun outdoors with the family with the Tarpons.

George M. Steinbrenner Field is a very historic stadium as it mimics Yankee stadium in New York. Open year round, you can book a time to tour the stadium, see historic monument park, featuring the numbers of retired Yankees’ greats, purchase some swag, and take home memories of history and swag from the gift shop.

Right across the street from Steinbrenner Field is Raymond James Stadium, home to the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers. From August to January, you can see the Bucs take on the rest of the NFL during their home slates. Known for their iconic pirate ship surrounded by tiki huts and palm trees in their North End Zone, it’s a must-see attraction when you visit. Fans can also rent out Buccaneer Cove for events during the off season.

So year-round there are professional sports to watch, whether it be the NHL, NFL, or Major League Baseball.
