Last night, the Tampa Bay Lightning shut out the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 in their first home game since February 15th. Now, we take a step back from all the action to take a look at some of the top headlines in the NHL today.

The Tampa Bay Lightning put on one heck of a show for the hometown crowd last night at the Amalie Arena when they shut out captain Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks by the score of 4-0.

This is the first game that the Lightning has played in front of their hometown crowd since they departed on their Western Conference road trip on February 15th.

The Tampa Bay Lightning has a difficult road ahead of them in the coming weeks, and with only 20 games left in the regular season, the Lightning will be looking to pick up as many points as possible in the final stretch. The good news is that the Lightning seems to have their eyes on the prize, and there is no going back now.

The boys in blue will have one day off before they have to head down to Sunrise to go head-to-head with their in-state rivals the Florida Panthers. The Lightning haven’t seen the Panthers since Opening Day, but they will get much more acquainted over the coming weeks as they will see them three more times.

The Lightning may have the day off today, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of news, not just here in the Bolts Nation, but around the rest of the National Hockey League as well. Let’s take a look at some of the top headlines today.

After the Lightning’s 4-0 shutout of the Chicago Blackhawks tonight, Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper spoke with the media to reflect on their road trip, discuss last night’s spectacular win, and take a look at the road ahead as they head into the final twenty games of the season. The Syracuse Crunch seems to have hit a patch of bad luck as of late. On Wednesday night, Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy took a trip down to Syracuse to get in some extra playing time. Unfortunately, a win just wasn’t in the cards. Last night, luck was not on their side once again as they fell 7-6 to the Albany Devils. [Syracuse Crunch]

The Chicago Blackhawks really know how to multi-task tonight. While they were in the middle of taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning, they were also in the middle of acquiring a new player. The Blackhawks were able to acquire defenseman Kimmo Timonen from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2nd Round Pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a conditional 4th Round Pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. The San Jose Sharks found themselves in a bit of hot water today as Sharks forward Logan Couture was fined $5,000, the maximum penalty under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slew footing Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith on Thursday night. [Blades of Teal]

One of the more shocking trades to come this season in the rush of deals heading up to the NHL Trade Deadline has been the acquisition of veteran right wing Jaromir Jagr by the Florida Panthers. This could turn out to be the best trade in Florida Panthers history, or it could be one of the worst. At the end of the season, Jagr is due to be an unrestricted free agent. If the Florida Panthers can’t tie him down they may have paid for a long-term investment with a short-term payout. [The Rat Trick]

As we said before, the Tampa Bay Lightning has the day off, but tomorrow it will be back to business as they head down south to do battle with their in-state rival, the Florida Panthers. Will the Lightning see the same level of success against the Panthers as they did against the Blackhawks? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
