Team Russia needs a win today from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto if they hope to continue on to the semi-final round at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Today is going to be a rather interesting day of hockey at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. A lot hangs in the balance in the day’s opening encounter, which sees Team Russia take on Team Finland in what is an incredibly pivotal game for the Russians.
Should the Russians pull out a victory over the Finns today, they will advance to the semi-final round alongside Team Sweden, who has already clinched their spot in Group B. While the Finnish team would gain nothing other than bragging rights over the Russians, a Team Finland victory would mean Team North America would advance to the semi-finals in lieu of the Russians.
The Russians have more than enough firepower in their arsenal to get the job done. As most Tampa Bay Lightning fans know, Team Russia has the Lightning’s 2015-16 lead point scorer Nikita Kucherov at their disposal. At the same time, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is no slouch either.

The simple fact of the matter is the Russians need to go out there and play their game. Don’t try to be cute, don’t attempt the highlight reel shots. They need to go to the dirty places and put the puck in the back of the net at all costs. If they can accomplish this, they will be headed to the semi-finals. If not, well…
