The Tampa Bay Lightning look to extend their win streak to three with a victory over their Atlantic Division rivals, the Montreal Canadiens.

The Tampa Bay Lightning may have hit some bumps in the road this season, but the one thing Bolts fans can always be sure of, the Lightning know how to bounce back and get back on track rather quickly. After a sobering loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Dec. 19, the Bolts have come back with two straight victories.

Tonight, the Lightning will charge into the Amalie Arena in the hopes of extending their win streak to three with a victory over their Atlantic Division rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. Needless to say, there is a lot of history between these two teams and there is certainly no love lost here.

This is going to be an interesting exchange for these two teams. The Montreal Canadiens are coming into the second half of their back-to-back series, having fallen 3-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. At the same time, the Lightning will be kicking off a back-to-back series, which will finish off tomorrow night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Logic would dictate the Lightning has the advantage heading into tonight’s contest. In addition to being well-rested following the Christmas break, the Canadiens are coming into tonight’s contest both tired and defeated. However, the latter part of the previous statement could provide inspiration for the ailing Habs.

While the Habs don’t have the same kind of offensive firepower the Lightning has been blessed with, they still have their fair share of talented forwards. One of the forwards the Lightning will need to be mindful of is Alex Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk has scored nine goals and 12 assists for a total of 21 points so far this season.

More from Bolts by the Bay

Alex Galchenyuk scored the Habs’ lone goal against Carolina last night.

Continuing to lead the way for the Tampa Bay Lightning is forward Nikita Kucherov. Kucherov, who was the first player in the NHL to reach 50 points this season, has brought home 24 goals and 27 assists for a total of 51 points so far this season.

As usual, right on his tail is Lightning captain Steven Stamkos. Stamkos has scored 13 goals and 32 assists for a total of 45 points along with a plus-17 rating.

The Lightning and Habs split the season series in 2016, each having taken two of the four games in the series. Ironically enough, one of each of their victories came in extra time. Tonight will be the first meeting of the season between these two teams in what is sure to be a heated season.

While fans anxiously await puck drop, let’s take a closer look at all the information one will need to ensure they don’t miss a moment of the action between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens tonight from the Amalie Arena in Downtown Tampa.
